India, RoK praise Vietnam’s successful ADMM+ organisation

India and the Republic of Korea (RoK)’s Defence Ministers have congratulated Vietnam on its successful organisation of the first ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM+) and praised its efforts to prepare for meeting-related documents.

On October 13, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung received Indian Defence Minister Shri AK Antony and RoK Defence Minister Kim Tae-Young who had attended the ADMM+.

Mr Dung appreciated the two defence chiefs’ contributions to the success of the ADMM+, which has helped promote mutual understanding and trust as well as cooperation between ASEAN and its dialogue partners for peace, stability, friendship, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

He spoke highly of the results of talks between the Indian and RoK Defence Ministers and their Vietnamese counterpart Phung Quang Thanh and asked all the parties to implement the reached agreements as soon as possible to enhance cooperation between Vietnam and these two Asian countries.

At a reception for Indian Defence Minister AK.Antony, PM Dung said Vietnam will do its best to work with India in an effort to develop strategic partnership in all aspects on a comprehensive, efficient and practical basis.

It is essential for the two national defence ministries to exchange information and boost bilateral cooperation to carry out the agreements adopted by both sides, Mr Dung noted.

The Indian Defence Minister told Mr Dung that during talks with his Vietnamese counterpart Phung Quang Thanh, both sides agreed on specific cooperation programmes between navy and air forces from the two countries and India is ready to help Vietnam modernize its military system and train human resources for national defence.

Meeting with PM Dung, RoK Defence Minister Kim Tae-Young highlighted Vietnam’s leadership role as 2010 ASEAN Chair and its successful organisation of the ADMM+. He hoped that the ADMM+ will become a dialogue channel for information exchange between ASEAN and its partners for the sake of peace, stability, cooperation, development and prosperity.

Mr Kim also expressed his sympathy with flood-hit people in Vietnam’s central region while affirming that his ministry will do its best to promote Vietnam-RoK defence cooperation and strategic partnership.

RoK Defence Ministry will increase intensify information exchange and enhance cooperation in defence industry with Vietnam, he added.

PM Dung said Vietnam and the RoK are strategic cooperation partners of each other and that Vietnam wishes both countries to put more effort to develop strategic partnership for mutual benefit.

In that spirit, Mr Dung asked the two defence ministries to increase cooperation in human resource training, anti-crime and defence industry.
