Huge potential for Vietnamese and Uzbek businesses to boost result-oriented cooperation

VOV.VN - Uzbek Deputy Prime Minister Khodjayev Jamshid Abdukhakimovich has highlighted extensive potential for cooperation between Vietnam and Uzbekistan in such areas as oil and gas, textiles and garments, transport, infrastructure, tourism, agriculture, and electronics.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man on April 8 attended the Vietnam–Uzbekistan Business Forum jointly held by the two governments as part of his official visit to the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Those in attendance included Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha, Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Khodjayev Jamshid Abdukhakimovich, and representatives from ministries, agencies, and enterprises of both countries.

Speaking at the forum, the Uzbek Deputy PM praised the outcomes of Chairman Tran Thanh Man’s meeting with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on April 7, describing it a milestone that opens a new chapter in bilateral relations.

He stressed the vast potential for cooperation, particularly in oil and gas, garments and textiles, transport, infrastructure, agriculture, tourism, and electronics, and expressed hope that both sides will soon establish concrete mechanisms to step up cooperation in a substantive, effective, and sustainable manner.

The NA leader affirmed that the visit not only consolidates the sound political ties between the two countries but also opens up new opportunities for economic, trade, and investment cooperation. He expressed confidence that the business communities of both sides will serve as a vital bridge to foster deeper and more effective bilateral ties.

Sharing Vietnam’s development goals, Chairman Man said Vietnam aims to become an upper-middle-income nation by 2030 and a high-income developed country by 2045. To that end, the country is restructuring its economy in tandem with reforming its growth model, improving its socialist-oriented market economy institutions, and spurring sustainable development based on science, technology, and innovation.

From this orientation, he proposed bolstering cooperation in agriculture, agro-processing, and textiles, while capitalizing on Uzbekistan’s abundant cotton supply and Vietnam’s strong production capacity. He also encouraged expanding cooperation in renewable energy, green technology, and tourism, including efforts to launch a direct air route in 2025. He especially highlighted the potential to leverage the free trade Agreement between Vietnam and the Eurasian Economic Union to enhance market access for both sides’ businesses.

He noted that Vietnam–Uzbekistan relations have seen encouraging progress, particularly in trade, with two-way turnover exceeding US$200 million and growing at an average annual rate of around 25% since 2021. However, there remains ample untapped potential that both countries should work to fully tap into, Man added.

The top Vietnamese legislator called for stronger business-to-business connectivity through investment promotion, market research, and networking, along with sustained high-level exchanges and greater involvement of ministries, sectors, and business associations in removing barriers and facilitating partnerships. He also emphasized the need to improve the business and investment environment and support enterprises in developing effective joint projects to access both the ASEAN and Central Asian markets.

Chairman Man affirmed that the Vietnamese National Assembly will continue working closely with the Government to improve the legal framework and create a transparent, stable, and enabling investment climate for long-term cooperation.

Immediately following the forum, the top legislator witnessed the signing of several cooperation documents in the fields of trade, diplomacy, and healthcare for the 2025–2026 period.
