Ho Chi Minh City, Lao locality share experience in veterans’ association work
A memorandum of understanding on promoting cooperation between the veterans’ associations of Ho Chi Minh City and Laos’ Champasak province for the 2026-2030 period was signed at a meeting between their leaders in the southern metropolis on the afternoon of April 1.
Under the agreement, both sides agreed to regularly exchange experience in the organisation of activities, contributing to strengthening and promoting the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.
They also pledged to continue political and ideological education for members, veterans and younger generations to preserve and promote bilateral traditions and cooperation, while stepping up delegation exchanges.
It is also necessary to create favourable conditions for veteran entrepreneurs to collaborate in economic development in Champasak and Ho Chi Minh City, thereby helping reduce poverty among veterans in line with the law.
At the meeting, Major General Nguyen Minh Hoang, chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City War Veterans’ Association, said the association currently has more than 101,000 members and over 60,000 former soldiers.
He noted that the Lao delegation’s visit and working session reflect the continued strong ties and exemplary solidarity between the militaries and people of Vietnam and Laos, contributing to consolidating and developing the special friendship between the two Parties, States and peoples – a relationship nurtured and preserved by generations of their leaders and citizens, and regarded as an invaluable shared asset.
Sharing this view, Colonel Bunmac Vilavong, chairman of the Champasak veterans’ association, affirmed that Parties, States, armies, and people of Vietnam and Laos have stood side by side in the struggle against colonialism and imperialism for national independence, and continue to support one another in national development today.
Vilavong expressed confidence that the newly signed cooperation agreement would be effectively implemented in the coming period, helping to further strengthen ties between veterans in the two localities and contribute to the prosperity of the two countries.
Vientiane meeting advances rollout of Laos–Vietnam cooperation plans
The Laos–Vietnam Cooperation Committee convened a conference in Vientiane on March 19 to review and disseminate outcomes of the 48th session of the Vietnam–Laos Intergovernmental Committee, stepping up efforts to implement bilateral cooperation agreements between the two nations.
