The statement was made by Le Minh Tri, Vice Chairman of the HCM City People’s Committee while receiving Simanovskiy Leonid Yakovlevich, Vice Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee for Energy on November 18.
Mr Tri said HCM City has established cooperative relations with many Russian localities and currently has a number of projects operating in both Vietnam and Russia.
As the country’s major economic hub, HCM City needs a highly developed scientific and technological foundation and energy sources, particularly electricity, to meet its economic development requirements, the city official said.
Vietnam, especially HCM City, is interested in a nuclear power plant construction project because of the urgent issue of energy sources for socio-economic development, emphasised Mr Tri.
Mr Yakovlevich said that his visit aims to further promote cooperation between Russia and Vietnam in energy and oil and gas.
At the working sessions with Vietnam’s relevant agencies, both sides discussed a nuclear power construction project in Vietnam, said Yakovlevich, adding that Russia is ready to exchange information, documents and its experience with Vietnam on nuclear power plant building.
