HCM City pledges favourable conditions for strong relations with US

VOV.VN - Nguyen Van Nen, member of the Politburo and secretary of the HCM City Party Committee, has vowed to clear hurdles and create the best possible conditions for the further development of ties with the US.

Speaking while receiving new Susan Burns, consul general of the US, on October 17, Nen thanked the US Government for its support to the southern city when it endured an intense period of COVID-19 outbreaks.

He said he hopes Burns, with her vast experience in diplomacy and important positions in Southeast Asia, will make numerous contributions to strongly promoting the mutual comprehensive partnership, especially in 2023 ahead of the 10th anniversary of the partnership.

In response, Burns expressed her gratitude for Vietnamese aid of face masks and medical equipment sent to the US to fight the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

Considering trade to be among the prioritised sectors, the diplomat unveiled that her tenure will also focus on helping the country to realise its climate change and clean energy goals.

She added her hopes that the nations can elevate their current comprehensive partnership to a strategic one.

Both host and guest shared a clear belief that the two sides will strive to expand co-operation in economics, trade, and education, among other sectors.
