The country’s southern hub has maintained its economic growth and achieved certain progress in public health care and education in the first half of this year but is still confronted with a series of socio-economic problems, according to a meeting of the Municipal People’s Council.
The Vice Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee, Nguyen Thanh Tai, reported that in the reviewed period the city’s GDP increased by 4.6 percent and in the second half of 2009, the committee will focus on preventing the economic slowdown and maintaining social welfare.
The council proposed that the Municipal People’s Committee should take more specific and effective measures to address the remaining issues such as traffic congestion and accidents, urban flooding, clean water supplies, food safety, site clearance, and population growth.
