The Ministry of Finance of Vietnam and the Ministry of Strategy and Finance of the Republic of Korea (RoK) held a seminar on ASEAN’s position towards the G20 Seoul Summit in Hanoi on August 20.

Both sides shared views on issues of mutual concern within the framework of G20. They discussed the ASEAN position in G20, highlighting the bloc’s participation in two G20 summits. Vietnam, as ASEAN Chair this year, attended the G20 Summit in Toronto, Canada, in June.

They highly valued the speech delivered by Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung at the Toronto Summit and Vietnam’s document featuring ASEAN views on G20 issues, demonstrating active participation of Vietnam and ASEAN in general in G20 forums.

The RoK hailed Vietnam’s participation in G20 as ASEAN Chair and pledged to come up with an official recommendation on Vietnam’s attendance in all G20 meetings in 2010 in its capacity as the ASEAN representative.

The delegates shared the view that ASEAN should be more active in the G20 process.

Deputy Finance Minister Tran Xuan Ha said the seminar was a milestone in the cooperation between the two ministries, not only within bilateral frameworks but also in regional and international arenas.
