Hanoi has worked out solutions to step up socio-economic development in the 2011-2015 period, including a projected growth rate of 13-15 percent which is achievable, said Chairman of the Hanoi municipal People’s Council, Nguyen The Thao.

The Hanoi municipal People’s Council closed its 22nd session in Hanoi on December 10, having adopted six regular resolutions, eight resolutions on special subjects and one on personnel work.

Council members considered the city’s implementation of socio-economic tasks, national security and defense in 2010 and agreed upon orientations, new tasks, budget estimates and next year’s budget allocation at municipal level.

The council underlined the need for Hanoi to effectively implement key tasks set for next year aiming achieve an economic growth rate of more than 12 percent, control inflation and price hikes, stabilise the macroeconomy, sharpen the competitiveness, and ensure sustainable development.

It is essential for the city to develop technical infrastructure and the cultural and spiritual lives of the people, ensure social welfare, give priority to vocational training and job creation, enhance administrative reforms, crush corruption, practise thrift, combat wastefulness, deal with pressing social issues, and expand international relations to raise its status.

Mr Thao said it is predicted that the global economy will bounce back next year which will boost exports and investment and enable Hanoi to achieve a growth rate of 12 percent in 2011.

To reach that goal, the Hanoi municipal People’s Committee needs to come up with effective solutions to iron out snags in business operations, reinforce administrative reform, improve the investment environment and effectively utilise all its resources to effectively restructure the city’s economy.

The focus should also be placed on socio-cultural issues, zoning plans and projects to refurbish the city and enhance rural and agricultural development, Mr Thao stressed.
