A meeting was held in Hanoi on January 29 to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Russia.

Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Truong Vinh Trong and Russian Ambassador Andrei Kovtun reviewed major developments of the time-honoured friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and former Soviet Union and now Russia.

They said that the two countries have signed a joint statement on the Vietnam-Russia strategic partnership, elevating bilateral ties to new heights.

They shared the view that both countries have worked closely in international forums, especially in solving regional and global issues.

Cooperative relations between Vietnam and former Soviet Union countries have fared well in the spirit of solidarity, friendship and cooperation, said Mr Trong.

The same day, a similar meeting was held in the central city of Da Nang with the participation of municipal authorities and Russian General Consul to the city Yuri Materiy.

On this occasion, Da Nang hosted a photo exhibition at the Trung Vuong Municipal Theatre, featuring Russia, its land and people as well as the friendship between Vietnam and Russia.

Famous Vietnamese and Russian artists also took part in a special music programme, while a Russian Films Week was held in the city.
