Hanoi boost relations with Australia’s Gold Coast
VOV.VN - Tran Sy Thanh, chairman of the People’s Committee of Hanoi, hosted a reception on December 6 for visiting Mayor of Gold Coast City in Australia’s Queensland State Tom Tate, who suggested a number of areas with good potential to boost bilateral ties such as education, the environment, and tourism.
Mayor Tate said that the visit is designed to enhance the partnership between the two cities following a long lull in activities caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, with further long-term collaboration opportunities between the two sides ahead.
The Gold Coast Mayor specified the need for more cultural exchanges to promote mutual understanding and trust between the two peoples, thereby creating an important premise for the growth of bilateral ties.
In response, Thanh stated he greatly valued the developing partnership between the two countries in general, particularly Hanoi’s relations with several Australian states. He emphasised the capital’s interest in expanding ties with other Australian localities, including Gold Coast.
The occasion saw the municipal leader brief his guest on the capital’s goal of building a livable city, affirming that the desire to facilitate greater connections with other global cities.
Agreeing with Mayor Tate on the potential co-operation areas that exist between the two cities, Thanh noted that those areas are of Hanoi’s interest during the implementation of its urban development strategy, especially in technology, wastewater treatment, and the circular economy. Thanh emphasised that along with advantages in workforce, Hanoi also boasts many high technology firms with full capacity for international co-operation.
The capital is also keen to ramp up education and tourism linkages with partners, which is helpful for future investment and trade collaboration expansion, Thanh told his guest.
He therefore pledged that Hanoi will strive to create optimal conditions for potential co-operation projects and activities between the Vietnamese capital and Gold Coast moving forward.
