Government leader pushes forward strategic infrastructure breakthroughs
VOV.VN - PM Pham Minh Chinh has called for faster and more focused implementation of major transport projects as a driving force behind the country’s strategic infrastructure development.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired the 17th meeting of the State steering committee for national key transport projects on May 10 in Hanoi
In his address, PM Chinh said that since the beginning of the 13th tenure, the Government has been focusing on promoting three strategic breakthroughs, including a key breakthrough in transport infrastructure, especially road connectivity.
He emphasized that road infrastructure development is of great importance, as expanding transport networks helps open up new development spaces, reduce logistics costs, and enhance both domestic and international competitiveness.
To effectively implement national key transport projects, the Government chief established the Steering Committee and has since prioritized the construction of expressways, bridges, railways, among other infrastructure facilities. Based on the guidance of the Party Central Committee and the Politburo, these projects have been effectively deployed, enhancing regional and international connectivity, creating jobs, easing traffic congestion, and human-to-human links, and unlocking new development opportunities.

In the context of ongoing trade tensions and US tariff policies, PM Chinh underlined the importance of focusing on three growth drivers, including consumption, investment, and exports. He stressed the need to accelerate investment, particularly public investment, with a focus on key transport infrastructure.
He called for a thorough review of ongoing projects to promptly remove any bottlenecks, while continuing to launch new ones and preparing for upcoming inaugurations.
At the meeting, the PM particularly stressed the responsibility and attitude of officials toward their work, emphasizing that action must accompany words. Performance-based evaluations are essential, especially in the context of ongoing efforts to streamline the apparatus, which require effective and suitable personnel arrangements. He instructed a review of personnel assignments in May and requested that officials who fail to fulfill their duties should not be appointed to higher positions.
He requested a detailed assessment of the Lao Cai – Hanoi – Hai Phong railway line and called for faster progress in site clearance and the supply of construction materials to ensure the completion of 3,000 km of expressways by 2025.
PM Chinh also directed that thorough preparations be made for the groundbreaking and inauguration of large-scale infrastructure projects to mark the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, with the main inauguration ceremony scheduled for August 19.
