Delegates gathered on December 8 at the Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) in Laos’ southern province of Atapeu in preparation for the 7th Conference of the Joint Coordination Committee for the Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia Development Triangle (CLV).
The meeting evaluated the implementation of commitments reached by the Prime Ministers of the three countries at the previous CLV conference and proposed plans for future cooperation between the provinces located in the development triangle.
Participants agreed that the development triangle has contributed to upgrading infrastructure, expanding transport links and stimulating investment in major hydroelectric projects.
However, they said, there remain shortcomings in socio-economic, infrastructure and human resource development, as well as poverty reduction to be overcome.
They called on Japan to continue aid packages for new projects in the region.
