The Women’s Union and Hanoi’s municipal board for the advancement of women held a get-together for female deputies of the 12th National Assembly (NA) on June 14 and honoured outstanding units who made great contributions to the recent NA election.

During the meeting, delegates outlined their expectations and shared experiences in various fields. They agreed that with rights and obligations the female NA deputies will closely follow women’s movements and report voters’ opinions to the NA.

Female NA deputies pledged to successfully fulfill their supervisory role in the implementation of laws and policies, particularly issues related to women’s advancement. They said they will ask functional bodies to resolve problems quickly and remove obstacles to the advancement of Vietnamese women.

During the 12th NA election, Hanoi elected 21 deputies, and more than 90 percent of female voters cast their ballots. Hanoi is one of the country’s leading cities in terms of female NA deputy ratio (a total of 9 out of 21), accounting for nearly 43 percent of the NA. The number of female NA deputies in Hanoi increased by 23 percent compared to the 2002-2007 term.
