Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has called on Germany to provide Vietnam with additional official development assistance (ODA) to protect the environment and cope with climate change and rising sea levels.

Mr Dung made the call while receiving German Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development Dirk Niebel in Hanoi on March 8.

He acknowledged the positive development of cooperative ties between the two countries in politics, economics, trade, investment, education and training, and said Vietnam wants to cooperate with Germany to bring bilateral relations to new heights this year to mark 35 years of their diplomacy.

He welcomed the result of meetings between the German minister and relevant Vietnamese agencies and confirmed the Vietnamese government will offer more incentives for Germany investors to operate in its country.

Minister Dirk Niebel shared Mr Dung view and said Vietnam is an important partner of Germany, especially in economics, trade, investment, education and training. He announced that the German Government has decided to provide Vietnam with an additional EUR19 million in aid for vocational training and coping with climate change.
