General Secretary and President To Lam departs for State visit to China

VOV.VN - General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and State President To Lam, his spouse Ngo Phuong Ly and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, left Hanoi on the morning of April 14 for a four-day state visit to China.

The visit is made at the invitation of General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and President of China Xi Jinping and his spouse.

The delegation includes Politburo members Tran Cam Tu, Permanent member of the CPV Central Committee’s Secretariat; Bui Thi Minh Hoai, Secretary of the CPV Central Committee and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee; Nguyen Duy Ngoc, Secretary of the CPV Central Committee and head of its Organisation Commission; Gen. Phan Van Giang, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence; Gen. Luong Tam Quang, Minister of Public Security; Nguyen Thanh Nghi, Secretary of the CPV Central Committee, head of the its Commission for Policies and Strategies; Le Hoai Trung, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Doan Minh Huan, President of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics; and Tran Duc Thang, Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee; along with other ministers and senior officials.

Framed as an important high-level external activity following recent historic visits by the top leaders of the two Parties and the two countries, and taking place exactly one year after the State visit to Vietnam by General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping, the working trip by General Secretary and President To Lam will provide an occasion for the top leaders of the two Parties and the two countries to exchange views and reach agreement on major orientations for development, further deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership, and build a Vietnam-China Community with a shared future of strategic significance in the new period.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu said that the State visit to China by General Secretary and President To Lam and a high-level Vietnamese delegation marks a new starting point in bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Taking place one year after the State visit to Vietnam by General Secretary and President Xi Jinping, the visit reflects mutual regard, the close and comprehensive alignment of interests between Vietnam and China, as well as common  commitments by the two countries to maintain and consolidate a peaceful and stable environment and create favourable conditions for the development of the two neighbouring countries, Vietnam and China.

This visit will help strengthen strategic cohesion, create a new peak and breakthroughs in substantive cooperation in areas including economy, trade, investment, science and technology, education and training, people-to-people exchanges, tourism, and exchanges between localities, and generate new impetus to consolidate the relationship and its material, social and political foundations for Vietnam–China relations in a new period, the Deputy FM said.
