Four new laws on Vietnamese working abroad, amendments and supplements to a number of articles of the Labour Code, residence and vocational training were made public at a press briefing held by the President's Office on December 20.

The new laws were approved by the 11th National Assembly at its tenth session in November, with the first three to take effect as of July 1, 2007, and the last one, as of June 1, 2007.


The Law on Vietnamese Working Abroad has eight chapters and 80 articles stipulating activities to send labourers abroad under labour contracts, rights and obligations of Vietnamese labourers who go abroad for work on contract, as well as rights and obligations of businesses and organisations to send workers abroad on contract and related organisations and individuals. The law draws much attention from the public, businesses and labourers, said Le Bach Hong, Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs.

The Law on amendments and supplements to a number of articles of the Labour Code focus on revising and amending stipulations on the order, procedures, jurisdiction to settle labour disputes in Chapter 14 of the Labour Code.

The 11-chapter and 92-article Law on Vocational Training stipulates the organisation and operation of vocational training establishments, rights and obligations of organisations and individuals getting involved in vocational training activities.


At the press briefing, Deputy Minister of Public Security Dang Van Hieu introduced the six-chapter and 42-article Law on Residence governing the citizens' rights to freedom of residence in the territories of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, registration and management procedure, and right as well as responsibility of citizens, households, agencies and organisations for residence registration and management.
