Fostering bilateral relations between Vietnam and Indonesia Bilateral ties between Vietnam and Indonesia strongly developed in a wide range of areas in recent years, said Indonesian Ambassador Pitono Purnomo at a meeting with media circles (MIG-V) in Ho Chi Minh City on February 25.

A number of visits have been made by the two countries’ senior officials and businesses, the ambassador said, emphasising that the state visit to Vietnam in 2010 by the Indonesian President has manifested the country’s resolve to further enhance its cooperative ties with Vietnam.

In term of economics, two-way trade turnover recorded US$2.8 billion in 2010 and is expected to increase in the future. Indonesian investors have engaged in 22 projects in Vietnam with a total capital of US$198 million.

However, according to the diplomat, the real investment capital could be over US$2 billion as a large number of projects have been registered in a third country.

Ambassador Pitono Purnomo said he believed that the close cooperation would bring great benefits for both countries’ people and the fine relations between the two nations would contribute to the stability, sustainable development and prosperity in the region and the world as well.
