Foreign friends remember General Giap
Many foreign friends have expressed their deep sorrow at General Vo Nguyen Giap’s passing away and heaped praises on him.
Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika extended condolences to President Truong Tan Sang, emphasising the deceased’s name will remain in the Algerian people’s memory.
This is a great loss to not only Vietnamese, but also to Algerians, the President said in his message.
In Cuban veteran journalist Marta Rojas’s eyes, General Giap is both a brilliant military strategist and a modest, simple, kind-hearted and humane man.
The journalist, who came to Vietnam many times to report on the American war, said she was saddened by the death of the General and felt as if she had lost a relative.
Meanwhile, Chia Teck Keng, Vice President of the Singapore Veteran Association, expressed his respect for the deceased, calling him an iconic general for all military strategists.
In his message, the party expressed its belief that the Vietnamese Government and people will continue to follow the example of the deceased.
