Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh has hailed programmes of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Vietnam.

Speaking at a reception for WHO’s newly-appointed Chief Representative in Vietnam, Takeshi Kasai, Minh said such efforts as the Immunization and Mother and Children Protection programmes have contributed greatly to people’s health, expressing his hopes that they will reap greater success in the future.

FM Minh asked the WHO to continue helping Vietnam prevent infectious and uninfectious diseases, promote nutrition, and ensure food safety and hygiene.

For his part, Kasai said he is honoured to represent the WHO in Vietnam. He congratulated Vietnam on its socio-economic achievements and said the WHO considers Vietnam as a priority partner in its cooperation.

The chief representative affirmed that he will continue working with the Vietnamese Government to successfully implement the 2012-2013 Vietnam-WHO cooperation programme.
