He highlighted Vietnam’s appreciation for the strong bilateral ties with Finland and expressed confidence that the visit would make positive contribution to further deepening the two countries’ relations and promote peace, stability, and development in the region and beyond.
Following the welcom ceremony, President Stubb and Party General Secretary To Lam led their high-level delegations into official talks.
This visit marks the highest-level trip of a Vietnamese leader to Finland, showing Vietnam’s profound respect for its longstanding friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Finland.
Bilateral trade between Vietnam and Finland has grown steadily in recent years. Cooperation in education and training has expanded, with nearly 20 Vietnamese higher education institutions maintaining active partnerships with Finnish counterparts and more than 2,500 Vietnamese students currently studying in Finland across fields such as economics, information technology, and tourism.
Science and technology also remain a promising area for cooperation, supported by numerous memorandums of understanding signed since 1995. Since establishing diplomatic relations, Finland has consistently provided grant-based aid without political conditions, focusing on water management, poverty alleviation, climate adaptation, and forestry.
Both countries are actively strengthening cooperation in other sectors, including renewable energy, particularly in regions facing difficulties, along with legal frameworks for energy projects.
In the fields of culture, sports, and tourism, both nations have organized cultural exchanges covering fine arts, music, dance, and literature. People-to-people exchanges have also been encouraged, with friendship associations serving as bridges to raise mutual awareness of each country’s culture and traditions.
This official visit of Party leader To Lam and his spouse, alongside the Vietnamese high-level delegation, presents an important opportunity for the two countries to review past achievements, set out strategic directions, renew relations, and elevate traditional friendship and all-around cooperation to a new level.
