Eighth NA session makes decisions on socio-economic issues

VOV.VN - The 15th National Assembly (NA) opened its eighth session on October 21 in Hanoi, with a particular focus on building laws, exercising the supreme supervisory power, and making decisions about socio-economic issues and other important affairs.

Party General Secretary and State President To Lam delivered a speech at the session, in which he emphasized that this session has the largest workload since the beginning of the 15th tenure and is also the first session responsible for institutionalizing the Resolution of the 10th session of the 13th Party Central Committee (PCC).

The session aims to put the Party's policies into practice, as well as dealing with many other important national issues with a view towards creating the premise and immediately preparing all aspects to bring the country into a new era - the era of the Vietnamese people's rise.

In his opening speech, NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man stressed that the session took place following the very successful 10the session of the 13th Party Central Committee. This session can be considered to be of great significance as the legislature will discuss and decide on many issues aimed at promptly removing difficulties and obstacles faced in terms of institutions and policies, unblocking resources, and overcoming bottlenecks all for the socio-economic development of the nation and to ensure people's lives.

The top legislator urged the reduction and simplification of administrative procedures, alongside tighter control of power to prevent group interests and local biases from influencing laws and resolutions.

All laws and resolutions passed by the NA must be of high quality and have long-term viability, while also giving the Government the flexibility and authority needed for effective implementation, he stressed

The NA leader said legislators will consider and make decision on the establishment of the centrally-run city of Hue, along with the investment policy for the national target programmes on cultural development for 2025-2035, on drug prevention and combat by 2030, and on the North-South high-speed railway project.

He also called for greater efforts to successfully achieve the socio-economic development targets for the 2021-2025 period and contribute to the successful implementation of the Resolution adopted at the 13th National Party Congress.

On behalf of the Government, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh reported on the results of the implementation of the socio-economic development plan for the year and a tentative plan for socio-economic development ahead for 2025 with the goal of continuing to prioritize promoting growth, maintaining macroeconomic stability, controlling inflation, and ensuring major economic balances.

Among the major tasks and solutions for 2025, the cabinet leader said that the Government will step up the fight against corruption, negativity, and wastage with a focus on fine-tuning institutions on controlling power, and combatting corruption, and negativity.

Prior to the opening, leaders of the Party, State, and Vietnam Fatherland Front, alongside NA deputies, paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum.

The eighth session takes place in two phases, of which the first is from October 21 to November 13 and the second from November 20 to the morning of November 30, with a total of 29.5 working days.

The NA will spend most of the time on building laws, exercising the supreme supervisory power, and making decisions about socio-economic issues and some other important affairs.

It is poised to adopt a total of 15 laws and three resolutions while discussing 13 draft laws. It will also assess the implementation results of the socio-economic development and state budget plans for the year; consider and make decisions about socio-economic development, state budget and central budget allocation plans for 2025; and also scrutinise the reports on judicial affairs, the corruption and crime prevention and control, as well as the settlement results of citizens’ opinions, petitions, complaints, and denunciations.

Furthermore, NA deputies will consider the personnel work within its jurisdiction, make a decision about the establishment of the centrally-run city of Hue, consider investment in the national target programme on cultural development for the 2025 to 2035 period, and hold question-and-answer activities.

In particular, they will decide upon investment in the North - South high-speed railway project, as well as the adjustment of the national land use master plan for 2021 to 2030 with a vision towards 2050.
