  • Vietnam-Egypt cooperation gathers momentum

At a meeting with the press on September 2, Chung said that since President Mohamed Morsi assumed office in May 2012, he has focused much attention to stabilizing the country's socio-political situation, developing the economy, and implementing diplomatic activities to increase its influence and role in the region.

Egypt also aims to promote its traditional relationships and multifaceted cooperation with important partners, including Vietnam, he said.

Ambassador Chung proposed that Vietnam and Egypt coordinate and support each other in international forums for mutual benefits and for the sake of peace, cooperation and development in the region.

Both countries should promote exchanges of high-ranking delegations and maintain meetings between ministries and agencies, he said, recommending that they prepare for a fifth Joint Committee meeting to review the implementation of bilateral agreements and map out plans to enhance ties in the new period.

Chung also suggested that Vietnam and Egypt establish a joint business council, to lay a firm foundation for the promotion of economic, trade, and investment cooperation.

Both countries are also planning to work closely together to prepare for the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties, he said.
