VTV told to elevate brand to regional prominence
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has requested that Vietnam Television (VTV) strengthen its role as the country’s leading media outlet, enhance the quality and impact of its reporting, and build its brand to regional prominence.
Speaking at a meeting to review the national TV broadcaster’s performance in 2025, the Prime Minister commended VTV for maintaining political integrity, staying aligned with its mission, and demonstrating operational flexibility. He identified six areas of strong performance: timely reporting, improved quality, positive transformation, effective coordination, streamlined structure, and a professional workforce, noting that the broadcaster has successfully fulfilled its key tasks.
In 2025, VTV fulfilled its political and social communication mandate, maintaining its status as a primary national broadcaster. The station delivered timely and comprehensive coverage of major national events, including the 50th anniversary of Southern Liberation, the 135th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh, the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day, as well as key political, economic, and social developments.
Significant structural reforms were also implemented last year, with the reduction of seven subordinate units and 45 departmental-level offices, while integrating functions from five television units that ceased operations. VTV absorbed 121 employees from these units, ensuring continuity of service and expertise.
The launch of the international broadcasting channel, Vietnam Today, further strengthened the country’s foreign media presence and promoted Vietnam’s image abroad. In addition, large-scale concerts and cultural programmes organised by VTV attracted tens of thousands of viewers, boosting the country’s cultural and creative industries.
Looking ahead to 2026, he urged the broadcaster to fully embrace digital technology, rapid reporting, and innovative communication strategies.
It must clearly define its core political mission as the leading national media outlet, improving both the quality and influence of its reporting to establish a regional brand of prominence, he said.
He also requested that VTV continue to advise on media strategy, analyze global trends, propose effective policy communications, and act as a bridge between the public and the government. The station is expected to cover national developments comprehensively, promote cultural growth, support creative industries, and cultivate a modern workforce while adhering strictly to Party and legal guidelines.
The Prime Minister stressed that resources should be invested to develop VTV into a modern, multimedia broadcaster at the forefront of technological innovation, highlighting Vietnam as “stable, dynamic, responsible, trustworthy, distinctive, friendly, confident, self-reliant, resilient, and innovative.”
The Vietnam Today channel should be strengthened as a key international communication platform, he said.
During the event, Prime Minister Chinh awarded VTV the Labour Order, First-Class, in recognition of its outstanding contributions to Vietnam’s socio-economic development.
