Vietnam reaffirms close cooperative ties with Russia
VOV.VN - Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung reaffirmed the special traditional relationship between Vietnam and Russia that has stood the test of time over the years, during a reception in Hanoi on November 11 for outgoing Russian Ambassador Konstantin Vnukov.
Dung thanked the former Soviet Union and present-day Russia for their heartfelt support and assistance to Vietnam, and noted with satisfaction the growing ties between the two sides through their top leaders’ reciprocal visits.
He appreciated the close collaboration between Vietnam and Russia during the 2019-2020 cross year to celebrate 70 years of Vietnam-Russia diplomacy and 25 years of the basic principles of their friendship. He welcomed their positive economic cooperation in recent years, with two-way trade turnover increasing from US$2.5 billion in 2014 to US$4.5 billion in 2019.
“Despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, two-way turnover had grown by nearly 13% during the past nine months,” Dung said.
He stressed the Vietnamese government is keen to promote multifaceted cooperation, especially in economics, trade, investment as well as in other areas such as national defense, security, energy, science-technology, culture-education between the two countries.
This is an important pillar of the Vietnam-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, especially in the current context when both sides want to increase the effectiveness of this relationship, said Dung.
He assured his guest the Government of Vietnam has directed relevant agencies to remove barriers against joint cooperation projects, saying the Vietnam-Russia Inter-government Committee meets the same day to iron out snags in bilateral cooperation.
On this occasion, Deputy PM Dung thanked Ambassador Konstantin Vnukov for his active contributions to strengthening bilateral ties during his working term in Vietnam. He expressed his hope the ambassador will support the perfect strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia in whatever position he will hold in the future.
For his part, Ambassador Vnukov said he was satisfied at the growing trade ties between the two countries despite the COVID-19 challenge, noting that Russian goods, including farm produce, entering the Vietnamese market has increased by 33%. He pledged to lobby Russian groups to invest and do business in Vietnam.
The diplomat vowed to continue to foster the comprehensive strategic partnership between Russia and Vietnam in the coming time.
