VFF leader praises Hoa Hao Buddhists’ contributions to national unity
VOV.VN - The President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) has praised the Hoa Hao Buddhist community for its contributions to national unity, social welfare and national development in a congratulatory letter marking the founding anniversary of Hoa Hao Buddhism.
In her message sent to the Central Executive Committee of the Hoa Hao Buddhist Church, religious dignitaries and followers on the occasion of the religion’s founding anniversary on the 18th day of the fifth lunar month of 2026, President of the VFF Central Committee Bui Thi Minh Hoai extended her best wishes and warm greetings to the Hoa Hao Buddhist community.
She commended the church and its followers for upholding their patriotic tradition and the principle of ‘serving both religion and the nation’ while actively implementing the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies and laws.
According to Hoai, the Hoa Hao Buddhist community has also responded actively to patriotic emulation movements and campaigns launched by the VFF, contributing to national solidarity and socio-economic development.
The VFF leader highlighted the community’s long-standing commitment to charitable and humanitarian activities inspired by the teachings of Huynh Phu So, founder of Hoa Hao Buddhism. These efforts include supporting disadvantaged people, building houses for low-income families, constructing rural roads and bridges, and participating in the national programme to eliminate temporary and dilapidated housing.
She noted that such activities have made meaningful contributions to social security, strengthened the great national unity bloc and supported the country's development.
On behalf of the VFF Central Committee, Hoai expressed appreciation for the practical and responsible contributions made by the Hoa Hao Buddhist Church, its dignitaries and followers to national construction and defence.
She said that 2026 marks an important year as Vietnam continues implementing the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress and the Resolution of the 11th National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, stressing that strengthening national unity is a key task in the country’s new development era.
She expressed confidence that the Hoa Hao Buddhist Church, its dignitaries and followers would continue promoting the religion’s positive values, patriotic tradition and the principle of leading a good secular life while practising the faith.
The VFF leader also called on followers to continue complying with the Party’s guidelines, State policies and laws, actively participate in patriotic movements, charitable programmes and humanitarian activities, and contribute to building a prosperous, civilised and happy Vietnam.
She wished the Central Executive Committee of the Hoa Hao Buddhist Church, religious dignitaries and followers good health, happiness and a peaceful celebration of the religion's founding anniversary.
Founded by Huynh Phu So in 1939 in present-day An Giang province, Hoa Hao Buddhism is an indigenous Vietnamese Buddhist tradition that emphasises simple religious practice at home, moral living and community service.
The religion encourages followers to live by the principle of serving both religion and the nation while actively participating in charitable work, poverty reduction, rural development and other community activities. Over the years, its humanitarian and social welfare programmes have become one of the defining features of the Hoa Hao Buddhist community, contributing to social development and strengthening Vietnam's national unity.
