Prosecutors asked to uphold courage and integrity to defend justice

VOV.VN - Prosecutors must maintain political resolve, professional ethics, reform-mindedness, and legal courage to defend justice and correctness, contributing to a judiciary that is upright, humane, and for the people.

Party General Secretary To Lam was speaking at a meeting in Hanoi on July 21 to mark the 65th anniversary of the People's Procuracy sector (July 26, 1960 - 2025).

In his remarks, the General Secretary emphasised the crucial role of the Procuracy sector in the context of Vietnam entering a new phase of development, a period defined by aspirations for national strength and deep international integration.

As a key pillar in safeguarding justice under the socialist rule-of-law state, the Procuracy must continue to contribute to building a professional, modern, fair, incorruptible, and people-serving judiciary, helping shape a disciplined, democratic, and just society where justice is upheld and public trust is strengthened, he said.

He called on the entire sector to closely align its operations with the country’s political mission during this transformative era. The work of the People’s Procuracy must be placed within the broader framework of building a socialist rule-of-law state, in parallel with the Party’s comprehensive renewal efforts, aiming for rapid and sustainable national development, improved quality of life, and strong political and social stability amid global integration.

The Party leader stressed the importance of building a team of prosecutors who are not only politically steadfast and professionally competent, but also ethically upright and disciplined. He underscored that prosecutors must possess the courage to uphold what is right and resolutely oppose what is wrong, fully recognising their critical role in safeguarding the legal foundations essential to national development and defence.

He further highlighted the need for continuous self-improvement among prosecutors, urging strict adherence to President Ho Chi Minh’s teachings that they are impartial, upright, objective, cautious, and humble. In this new era, he said, demand of justice is growing more complex, requiring prosecutors to constantly elevate their skills and professional standards.

The General Secretary called on the sector to renew its mindset and reform working methods to enhance the effectiveness of both prosecution and judicial oversight. In particular, he emphasised that criminal prosecution must be conducted in strict accordance with the law, ensuring the right person is held accountable for the right crime, while also focusing on preventing wrongful convictions and ensuring no crime goes unpunished. He stressed that justice must be delivered with both strictness and humanity, reflecting the core duties of all officials within the People’s Procuracy.

He also placed strong emphasis on the role of digital transformation and technological innovation in modernising the sector. An electronic prosecutorial model, he noted, will help streamline procedures, eliminate redundant steps, and improve overall efficiency in case handling.

On behalf of the Party and State leadership, General Secretary To Lam awarded the Labour Hero title to the People's Procuracy sector, in recognition of its significant achievements over the past 65 years.

Prosecutor General Nguyen Huy Tien awarded the “For the Cause of the Procuracy” insignia to Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh and Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court Le Minh Tri, in recognition of their dedicated contributions to the advancement of the sector.
