Party chief urges shift in economic thinking and global integration
VOV.VN - Party General Secretary To Lam on December 15 called for a fundamental shift in thinking and approach to economic development and international integration, saying the change was urgent to improve growth quality and adapt to rapidly evolving domestic and global conditions.
Speaking at a voter meeting in Hung Yen province, Party leader Lam noted that Vietnam needed to move away from extensive growth driven by low-skilled labour toward a development model based on science, technology and high-quality human resources.
Accompanied by National Assembly deputies, the party chief met voters in Kien Xuong, Le Loi and Quang Lich communes, where he briefed them on key outcomes of the recent 10th session of the 15th National Assembly and addressed local concerns.
He said international integration should go beyond market expansion and focus on deeper participation in global value chains, including the export of knowledge, technology and production models.
On labour exports, he called for a shift toward a sustainable, high-skilled workforce, capable of mastering advanced technologies, rather than relying mainly on low-skilled workers.
Citing agricultural cooperation projects in Cuba, Africa and Russia, the leader said Vietnam should proactively pursue new forms of international cooperation that leverage land resources, technology and global markets to generate higher added value and reinvest in domestic development.
Addressing climate change, he said Vietnam would prioritise long-term investment in climate-resilient infrastructure, including upgrading coastal dykes, improving housing standards in flood-prone areas and supporting communities vulnerable to natural disasters.
The Party chief also updated voters on socio-economic conditions, preparations for the 14th National Party Congress, efforts to safeguard national sovereignty and progress in streamlining local government operations.
During the visit, To Lam donated 30 computers to the three communes and visited the family of a war veteran in Kien Xuong commune.
