Party chief confident of the CPV’s leadership role in driving Vietnam forward in new era

VOV.VN - Party General Secretary To Lam has just written an article shedding light on the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV)’s establishment, development and achievements over the past 95 years and his belief in the Party’s leadership role in driving Vietnam forward in the new era.

In his article, the Party leader reviewed major milestones in the establishment and development of the CPV, affirming that over the past 95 years, the CPV has led Vietnam through immense challenges, achieving great victories and leaving a profound mark on the nation’s history.

On February 3, 1930, under Ho Chi Minh’s leadership, the Communist Party of Vietnam was officially established, uniting various communist factions and providing a clear revolutionary direction. This put an end to Vietnam’s crisis of leadership and set the nation on a course toward independence and socialism.

Fifteen years after its formation, the CPV led the successful August Revolution in 1945, overthrowing colonial rule and establishing the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, the first of its kind in Southeast Asia. Facing new challenges shortly afterwards, including foreign invasions, economic crisis, political instability, the Party then guided the people through multiple wars, culminating in the defeat of French forces in Dien Bien Phu in 1954 and the historic victory over American imperialism in 1975, achieving national reunification.

Post-war Vietnam faced severe economic difficulties, but under the Party’s leadership, the country embarked on a series of reforms, transitioning from a centrally planned economy to a socialist-oriented market economy. Such reforms have driven remarkable progress in economic growth, poverty reduction, and international integration.

From a war-torn, impoverished, and isolated state, Vietnam has transformed into a developing country with a middle-income economy, deeply integrated into global politics, the world economy, and human civilization. It has held significant international responsibilities by playing an active role in numerous international organizations and key multilateral forums such as ASEAN and the United Nations. National independence, sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity have been firmly maintained, while national interests are safeguarded.

By 2024, Vietnam's economy has surpassed US$470 billion, ranking 32nd globally and placing the country among the top 20 economies in trade and foreign investment attraction. Citizens' living standards have improved significantly, with the poverty rate dropping to just 1.93% from 60% in 1986 when the Party launched the reform policy.

The Party leader emphasized that Vietnam’s remarkable achievements over the past 95 years stem from multiple factors, foremost among them being the wise and decisive leadership of the CPV. The Party’s guidance, along with the sacrifices, resilience, and creativity of the people and armed forces, has led Vietnam from victory to victory. International support and cooperation have also played a crucial role.

According to him, during difficult and challenging times, the CPV has demonstrated courage, unity, and strategic vision, rallying the entire political system to achieve historic and comprehensive progress across all fields. Through this revolutionary journey, it has continuously strengthened itself, proving the ability and legitimacy as the sole political force capable of driving the nation forward. The reality affirms that in Vietnam, no other political entity possesses the capacity, vision, experience, and credibility to guide the country through challenges and secure its continuous success.

Party General Secretary To Lam emphasized that the CPV’s mission today is to lead the country into an era of development and prosperity, successfully building a socialist state where the people are wealthy, the country is strong, and society is democratic, just, and civilized on par with the world’s leading powers. In addition, Vietnam contributes increasingly to regional and global peace, stability, and progress, for the happiness of humanity and global civilization. The top priority is to successfully achieve strategic goals of turning Vietnam into a developing country with a modern industrial economy and upper middle income by 2030 to mark 100 years of its CPV and into a developed, high-income country by 2045 to celebrate 100 years of its modern socialist state.

To continue shouldering this historic responsibility, he said, the CPV must constantly strengthen itself, uphold its revolutionary nature, enhance its leadership and governance capacity, and maintain close ties with the people. It must continuously renew and reform itself, foster democracy, and build a strong, clean, and capable cadre of officials who remain steadfast in the ideals of Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought. At the same time, the Party must continuously refine its theoretical foundations, improve ideological work, and establish a solid foundation for leading the country toward rapid and sustainable development.

In light of new revolutionary demands, especially in the context of deep international integration and global challenges, the Party chief pointed out, Party-building efforts must be further strengthened, innovated, and implemented decisively. To do this, he said, the Party must firmly uphold its goals and ideals; continuously refine its theoretical foundations; and accelerate the Party building and rectification campaign to maintain integrity and strength.

In his opinions, it is important to reform the political system to make it more streamlined and efficient, build a strong team of officials, especially key leaders at all levels; enhance the application of science, technology, and digital transformation in Party-building efforts; and work hard to meet and exceed the targets set by Party resolutions, particularly in socio-economic development, alongside organizing Party congresses at all levels in preparation for the 14th National Party Congress.

Concluding the article, the Party leader affirmed that the entire Party, army and people will stand together to overcome all difficulties and challenges, lead the country to rapid and sustainable development in the new era, and build a bright and prosperous future for the Vietnamese nation.
