National Assembly Vice Chairman inspects election preparations in An Giang
VOV.VN - A working delegation from the National Election Council led by Lieutenant General Tran Quang Phuong, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, conducted an inspection of election preparations in An Giang province on March 7.
The visit aimed to review readiness for the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and local People’s Councils for the 2026–2031 term.
During the working session with the provincial Election Committee, local authorities reported that An Giang has strictly implemented directives from the central government on election organisation.
As a border locality with strategic importance for national defence and security, An Giang has coordinated closely with local authorities to establish 2,712 polling stations across the province.
According to the provincial Election Committee, the review and assignment of voters has been completed, with more than 3.6 million eligible voters identified. Procedures for candidate consultations and nominations have been carried out in accordance with regulations and have received broad consensus without controversy.
Security preparations have also been strengthened. Authorities said 100% of officers and soldiers of the provincial armed forces have been briefed on election duties, maintaining combat readiness and regularly rehearsing response plans to ensure security for the nationwide election day.
Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Quang Phuong praised the leadership of the An Giang Party Committee and the provincial Election Committee for their proactive role in ensuring security, social order and safety for the upcoming elections.
He urged the province to ensure the election process is conducted in accordance with regulations, and to strengthen public communication so that voters can make informed choices and elect qualified representatives to the National Assembly and local People’s Councils.
Given An Giang’s maritime characteristics, with more than 3,600 fishing vessels regularly operating offshore, Phuong suggested that local authorities consider using border guard control stations as mobile polling stations, helping fishermen exercise their voting rights even while working at sea.
For elderly voters or those with mobility difficulties, local election teams should also bring mobile ballot boxes to voters’ homes, he said.
Regarding security, Phuong requested authorities to carefully rehearse contingency plans under the principle of “clear responsibilities, clear tasks and clear timelines.” He also stressed the need to closely monitor the situation, address complaints promptly and prevent any activities that could disrupt the election process.
The National Assembly Vice Chairman expressed confidence that with thorough preparations and strong commitment from local authorities, An Giang would successfully organize the elections and ensure the event becomes a nationwide democratic celebration, continuing the spirit of Vietnam’s first general election.
Earlier, National Assembly Vice Chairman Tran Quang Phuong held a working session with the An Giang Provincial Military Command to review security arrangements for the election.
At the meeting, Phuong praised the unit’s sense of responsibility and achievements, while noting that An Giang’s long border and diverse ethnic and religious communities require constant vigilance.
He called on the military command to maintain its core role in forecasting and responding to potential security situations and to review protection plans to ensure absolute safety at all polling stations across the province.
