National Assembly Chairman pays tribute to war martyrs in Quang Tri
VOV.VN - National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man offered incense in tribute to fallen heroes at the Truong Son National Martyrs’ Cemetery and the Road 9 National Martyrs’ Cemetery in central Quang Tri province on April 27, marking 50 years of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification.

In a solemn atmosphere, Man and other officials observed a minute of silence to honour the immense sacrifices made by the heroes and martyrs who dedicated their youth and blood to the cause of national independence, freedom, and happiness.
They pledged to live, study, and work in a manner worthy of the sacrifices made by generations of compatriots and soldiers. They committed to fulfilling their legislative duties at the upcoming ninth session of the National Assembly, due to begin in Hanoi on May 5, with a focus on amending and supplementing the Constitution and related laws, setting the stage for a new era of national development with a long-term vision.
During the resistance war against American imperialism, more than 20,000 Vietnamese people laid down their lives along the Truong Son Trail. After reunification, competent authorities approved the construction of the Truong Son National Martyrs’ Cemetery in Quang Tri to honour these sacrifices.
The project was started on October 24, 1975, and completed on April 10, 1977. It is the eternal resting place of more than 10,000 heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives along the legendary Ho Chi Minh Trail during the war.
Meanwhile, the Road 9 National Martyrs’ Cemetery, also in Quang Tri, is home to nearly 11,000 heroic martyrs, including those from regular army units, local forces, militias, and youth volunteers who fought on the Road 9 battlefield and in neighbouring Laos during the resistance against American imperialism.
Both cemeteries stand as solemn monuments to the revolutionary heroism, the spirit of struggle for national independence, and the deep yearning for peace of the Vietnamese people. They also serve as sacred addresses for educating younger generations about the nation’s proud revolutionary traditions.
Vietnam will hold a grand ceremony to mark the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification in Ho Chi Minh City on April 30.
