Hostile forces’ distorted narratives on Vietnam People’s Army under fire
VOV.VN - In recent times, hostile forces attempting to undermine the Vietnamese revolution through the campaign of ‘peaceful evolution’ and the scheme of ‘depoliticizing the military’ have focused their attacks on the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA).
Distorted narratives of hostile forces
Many of these bad-faith actors have deliberately tried to distort the VPA’s historical values and proud traditions, denying its victories under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV). Such forces have falsely questioned the loyalty of the military to the Party, the State, and the people in an effort to sow discord in the internal unity of the armed forces, civil-military solidarity, and international camaraderie.
Using inflammatory and unscientific rhetoric, their attempts have focused on tarnishing the image of “Uncle Ho’s Soldiers” (Vietnamese soldiers) in the eyes of the people and international friends, eroding public trust in the VPA whilst severing the deep bond between the army, the people, the Party, and the State.
Through baseless arguments, hostile forces have fabricated discussions around the goals, ideals, functions, and duties of the VPA. Seeking to take advantage of the shortcomings of a few individuals within the military, they have provoked conflicts to weaken the relationship between the army and the people. Furthermore, they have distorted the VPA’s noble international missions during historic wars of national liberation and defense, particularly its assistance to the revolutions in Laos and Cambodia.
The truth behind the army’s role
These arguments represent blatant distortions and fabrications that are groundless, illogical, and unscientific.
The founding of the VPA was the inevitable result of the CPV’s revolutionary line and Ho Chi Minh’s ideology, built on principles of a new-style military, embodying the characteristics of the working class, the people, and the nation as a whole. It is an army born from the people and fighting for the people. Over decades of revolution, the VPA has proven itself not only as a reliable political tool and loyal force of the Party and State, but also as a firm foundation for both the people and the nation.
The VPA therefore stands committed to sacrificing itself for the greater interests of the nation, class, and people, protecting national independence, sovereignty, and the peace of the Vietnamese people. Its core values of loyalty to the Party, faithfulness to the nation, and filiality to the people are deeply intertwined in its essence and traditions.
History reveals that under the Party’s leadership, the VPA has grown from small guerrilla groups into a revolutionary, regular, and modern army. It transitioned from infantry forces to a full-fledged military with diverse branches which are able to adapt to changing demands.
From leading the August Revolution in 1945 to defeating French colonialism in 1954 and later US imperialism in 1975, the VPA has played a central role in the country’s path to national independence and socialism. Its readiness to fight and sacrifice itself for national interests and the people reflects its revolutionary character of an army born from the people, fighting for the people.
Beyond its role in defending the nation, the VPA has been a force of community support, by assisting people during natural disasters, epidemics, and emergencies. It has been at the forefront of rescue missions, disaster recovery, and international humanitarian aid, thereby showcasing its multifaceted role as a fighting force, a working force, and a production force.
During events like the COVID-19 pandemic or recent natural disasters, the image of VPA soldiers assisting communities, distributing supplies, and rebuilding homes has reinforced its reputation as ‘Uncle Ho’s Soldiers’, all of which has served the people with devotion and sacrifice.
The VPA has never engaged in aggression against any nation. Its volunteer forces and military experts have played vital roles in helping Cambodia to escape genocide and supporting Laos in their struggle for national liberation. These missions exemplify the VPA’s genuine, selfless international solidarity, reflecting its commitment to justice and humanity.
Upholding revolutionary principles
The 80-year history of the VPA demonstrates its steadfast revolutionary nature. It remains a loyal and reliable political and combat force for the Party, State, and people. Claims that a military should only serve the nation without political loyalty can be viewed as not only baseless, but also misleading. Every military serves specific political purposes, and the VPA, under the CPV’s leadership, has always fulfilled its mission of protecting the people and the country while maintaining its revolutionary identity.
Celebrating the VPA’s 80th anniversary this year is an opportunity to revisit its glorious history and traditions. It also serves as undeniable evidence against the distortions of hostile forces, reinforcing the faith of VPA soldiers in the Party’s leadership. With creativity, resilience, and a determination to overcome any challenge, the VPA is committed to continuing to uphold its noble traditions for the sake of the Vietnamese revolution.
