Ho Chi Minh City targets top 100 global cities by 2045

VOV.VN - The first Congress of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee for the 2025-2030 tenure concluded successfully on October 15 after three working days, adopting 30 specific development targets and three breakthrough programs aimed at realizing the city’s new vision for the next five years and beyond.

The Congress approved key goals for the 2025-2030 period, notably the ambition to build Ho Chi Minh City into a modern, civilized metropolis among the world’s top 100 cities and one of the leading global innovation ecosystems by 2030.

Looking further ahead to 2045, marking the 100th anniversary of Vietnam’s founding, the city aims to be among the 100 best cities worldwide, emerging as a premier international megacity of Southeast Asia and a regional hub for economy, finance, and education.

To realize this vision, delegates adopted 30 concrete development indicators along with three strategic and breakthrough programs for the upcoming term.

Participants also discussed and contributed opinions to the draft documents to be submitted to the 14th National Party Congress and to the draft political report of the municipal Party Committee.

The Congress unanimously approved a review report on the leadership and guidance of the 2020-2025 Party Committee and Standing Board, as well as the Resolution of the 2025-2030 Congress.

In his closing remarks, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Tran Luu Quang emphasized that the Congress’s Resolution embodies the will, determination, and creativity of Ho Chi Minh City in the new era. The greatest success of the Congress, he said, lies in the consensus and vision for the city’s development over the next five years and the longer term, demonstrating the city’s strongest aspiration for rapid, sustainable, and modern growth.

In terms of personnel, the Congress elected the first Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee and Standing Board for the 2025-2030 tenure, introduced the 16-member Inspection Commission, and announced a delegation of 80 official and 9 alternate representatives to attend the 14th National Party Congress.

The first Congress of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee holds historic significance, marking a turning point following the city’s merger with Binh Duong and Ba Ria–Vung Tau provinces. This milestone ushers in a new phase of development, forming Vietnam’s largest urban-industrial-seaport zone and providing momentum for the city to pursue rapid and sustainable development alongside the nation.
