Council of ASEAN Chief Justices meets in Hanoi

VOV.VN - The 8th Council of ASEAN Chief Justices (CACJ) Meeting was virtually held in Hanoi on November 5, attracting the participation of chief judges of ASEAN countries.

Addressing the event, chief judge of the Supreme People’s Court of Vietnam Nguyen Hoa Binh noted the meeting offered a chance for courts of ASEAN countries to strengthen cohesion and cooperation, as well as  to promote mutual understanding between judicial systems in the region.

“Since it officially became an affiliated institution of ASEAN, the Council of ASEAN Chief Justices has continuously made efforts to improve the organizational structure, strengthen activities and expand the scope of interaction with other institutions and organizations within and outside the region,” Binh said. “This aims to further promote democracy, improve the efficiency of state management, promote the rule of law, and enhance peace, stability and prosperity in the ASEAN region.”

According to Binh, the integration and coherence between the judicial and legal systems in ASEAN helps reduce law enforcement costs and create favourable conditions for entrepreneurs and people to do business, travel and live in Southeast Asian countries.

At the same time, he said the process also helps enhance the transparency and predictability of the judicial system, strengthen investors’ confidence, and create opportunities for capital access and equal competition among countries.

Given the context, he stressed CACJ becomes an important channel of cooperation where regional courts exchange information and experiences, enhance mutual understanding and further tighten cooperation.

At the meeting, regional chief judges discussed ways to realize ideas introduced in the previous meetings, looked at difficulties and challenges they faced, and worked out solutions to these problems.
