Vietnam, Uruguay hold political consultation

VOV.VN - Vietnam and Uruguay held their fourth political consultation on November 17 to hammer out measures to deepen bilateral cooperation.

The event was virtually co-hosted by Deputy Foreign Minister of Vietnam Nguyen Quoc Dung and his Uruguayan counterpart Carolina Ache Batlle.

Both sides briefed each other on the situation in their respective countries, especially the fight against COVID-19, and measures to boost economic growth and ensure social security.

They agreed to continue working closely to increase the exchange of high-level visits when conditions permit, and effectively maintaining the working mechanism of the Vietnam – Uruguay Joint Committee on Economic, Trade and Investment Cooperation, as well as political consultations between the two foreign ministries. They stressed the need to encourage cooperation between the two countries’ ministries, agencies, localities and enterprises in various forms.

Deputy Minister Dung pointed out that the two sides still have great potential for stronger cooperation in economy and trade. He thanked Uruguay for its good coordination and support for Vietnam at multilateral forums and international organizations.

For her part, Deputy Minister Batlle affirmed that Vietnam is one of Uruguay’s important partners in Asia. She said Uruguay will continue coordinating with Vietnam in expanding their market access in South America and the Asia-Pacific.

The two diplomats consented that the two sides will promote cooperation in a number of potential fields to celebrate 30 years of their diplomatic relations in 2023.

They also exchanged views on a number of international and regional issues of common concern, agreeing that the two countries will continue coordinating and supporting each other at international organizations and multilateral forums of which both Vietnam and Uruguay are members.
