Vietnam, Thailand step up implementation of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership
VOV.VN - Party General Secretary and State President To Lam and Thai National Assembly President Sophon Zaram agreed to step up implementation of high-level agreements, accelerate the Three Connects strategy and expand bilateral trade toward a target of US$25 billion, with a longer-term goal of US$50 billion.
Receiving the Thai parliamentary leader in Hanoi on August 7, Party General Secretary and State President To Lam said he hopes the guest’s visit will create fresh momentum for deepening the Vietnam-Thailand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
He welcomed the outcomes of the guest’s talks with National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and his meeting with Prime Minister Le Minh Hung, noting the steady progress in bilateral relations across a wide range of areas.
For his part, Zaram reaffirmed Thailand's commitment to strengthening its Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Vietnam and expressed interest in expanding cooperation in trade, investment, education and tourism.
He praised Vietnam's development achievements and its growing role in the region, adding that Thailand is interested in learning from Vietnam's experience in streamlining the state apparatus.
The Thai parliamentary leader also spoke highly of cooperation between the two legislatures and affirmed that the Thai parliament would continue working closely with Vietnam's National Assembly through exchanges on lawmaking, oversight and other legislative activities.
The two leaders agreed to further strengthen political trust through regular high-level exchanges and contacts, effectively implement the 2026-2031 Action Programme for the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and deepen cooperation in defence and security, including efforts to combat transnational crime.
They also pledged closer coordination at regional and international forums, particularly within ASEAN, the Mekong subregional cooperation mechanisms, and the United Nations.
On economic cooperation, both sides agreed to accelerate implementation of the "Three Connects" strategy through concrete programmes and projects aimed at enhancing connectivity between the two economies, promoting balanced and sustainable trade, and raising bilateral trade to US$25 billion before working toward a longer-term target of US$50 billion, in line with the common understanding reached by the two countries' leaders.
The two leaders also consented to facilitate greater investment and business cooperation while encouraging stronger links between localities and business communities in both countries.
The top Vietnamese leader highlighted the role of the Thai parliament in promoting bilateral ties, describing parliamentary cooperation as one of the key pillars underpinning political trust and supporting the implementation of high-level agreements.
On the occasion, he expressed his hope of welcoming the King and Queen of Thailand to Vietnam in the near future. He called on Thailand to continue creating favourable conditions for the Vietnamese community to live and work stably, enabling them to further serve as a bridge of friendship between the two countries.
