Vietnam strengthens bilateral ties with China and Algeria at AMM-58
VOV.VN - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam Bui Thanh Son held bilateral meetings with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on July 10, on the sidelines of 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM-58).

In his meeting with the Chinese diplomat, both sides conducted a comprehensive and substantive exchange on bilateral relations and regional and international issues of mutual concern.
Wang congratulated Vietnam on its successful administrative reforms and preparations for the upcoming 14th National Party Congress.
The two Ministers reaffirmed the strategic significance of the Vietnam - China relationship in each country’s foreign policy, expressing satisfaction with the robust and positive developments in bilateral ties. They noted the increasing frequency and effectiveness of high-level exchanges, growing people-to-people and locality-to-locality cooperation, and the deepening of political trust between the two countries.
Both sides agreed to enhance coordination to effectively implement high-level agreements and promote a stable, healthy, and sustainable bilateral relationship. They committed to maintaining regular high-level contact, co-organising major diplomatic activities in 2025, and bringing into full play existing cooperation mechanisms, particularly the coming 17th meeting of the Vietnam–China Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation.
They held that key cooperation priorities include strategic transportation connectivity, especially railway collaboration, innovation, border management, and the building of a peaceful, friendly, and cooperative shared border.
Regarding the East Sea, both ministers emphasised the importance of fully implementing the agreements and common perceptions reached by top leaders of the two Parties and countries, strictly adhering to the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), and accelerating negotiations for an effective and substantive Code of Conduct (COC) in accordance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Later the same day, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son met with Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf. He congratulated Algeria on officially joining the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), considering it a significant milestone in enhancing Algeria–ASEAN relations.
He affirmed Vietnam’s respect for the traditional friendship with Algeria and expressed the country’s commitment to furthering practical and effective bilateral cooperation.
Attaf, for his part, reiterated Algeria’s deep appreciation for its longstanding relationship with Vietnam, and expressed a desire to expand cooperation, especially beyond existing successful collaboration in the oil and gas sector.
The two sides agreed to strengthen delegation exchanges at all levels to reinforce political trust and promote concrete cooperation. They committed to promoting joint projects in oil and gas, trade, construction, mining, pharmaceuticals, Halal products, and agriculture.
Both countries should explore innovative cooperation methods to improve effectiveness and closely coordinate at multilateral forums, including the United Nations and the Non-Aligned Movement, contributing to South–South cooperation, they said.
