Vietnam sends condolences to Japan over tourist boat sinking

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has sent his condolences to Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio over the sinking of a Japanese tourist boat off the coast of Hokkaido island.

The Kazu 1 carrying 24 passengers and two crewmembers aboard got into difficulties when it was on a sightseeing tour around the scenic Shiretoko Peninsula on Japan’s northernmost main island of Hokkaido on April 23 afternoon.

The captain sent a distress call and authorities lost contact with the crew shortly afterwards.

NHK reported that the boat was keeling at a 30-degree angle, and those on board were wearing life jackets.

After days of searching for survivors at sea, the Japan Coast Guard recovered the bodies of 11 people, including a child.

Authorities believe the vessel sank, and an investigation is still underway.
