Vietnam seeks to accelerate strategic railway projects with China
VOV.VN - Vietnam aims to speed up the implementation of key railway projects connecting with China, including the Lao Cai–Hanoi–Hai Phong, Hanoi–Lang Son, and Hanoi–Mong Cai lines.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha was speaking during his reception for Wang Bo, general manager of China Railway No.6 Engineering Group Co., Ltd. of the China Railway Engineering Corporation (CREC) in Hanoi on August 14.
Ha emphasised that fast-tracking these projects will improve logistics efficiency, promote socio-economic development in both countries, and enhance Vietnam’s capacity to operate and adopt modern railway technologies.
He noted that the government of Vietnam prioritises advanced technology in railway projects, calling for responsible implementation, safety assurance, and application of modern technology to bring Vietnam’s railway sector closer to international standards.
Chinese enterprises participating in the projects are encouraged to transfer technology and support Vietnamese companies in operations, maintenance, and management through clear legal and economic agreements, including workforce training, said Ha
Regarding the North–South high-speed railway project, The Deputy PM suggested that Chinese firms could participate via public, public–private partnership (PPP), or private investment models, but always in conjunction with technology transfer and collaboration with experienced Vietnamese investors.
He also urged China Railway No.6 to apply lessons learned from their previous experiences with urban railway projects in Vietnam to ensure that future projects are carried out in a well-planned, organized, and professional way.
He assigned the Ministry of Construction to work closely with China Railway No.6 and Vietnamese partners to promptly resolve any emerging issues and accelerate project progress.
Wang Bo briefed the Deputy PM on China Railway No.6’s capabilities and experience, noting that the company has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with a Vietnamese partner, and conducted technical staff training, on-site surveys, and inspections of equipment production facilities for the Lao Cai–Hanoi–Hai Phong line.
He assured that the company would leverage its technological strengths and combine them with the local knowledge of Vietnamese partners to select suitable project contracts, ensuring efficiency and safety for the Lao Cai–Hanoi–Hai Phong railway project. This approach will also open opportunities to participate in other railway infrastructure projects in Vietnam, he said.
