Vietnam rejects distortions regarding search for missing US servicemen
VOV.VN - Vietnam has strongly rejected recent distorted and unfounded claims concerning its longstanding humanitarian cooperation with the United States in the search for American military personnel missing in action (MIA) during the war in the country.

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang was speaking in response to a media query about a report recently released by the National League of Families of American Prisoners and Missing in Southeast Asia, which made misleading statements about bilateral cooperation in the MIA search.
“These are distorted and false allegations, and we strongly reject them,” said Hang.
She emphasised that Vietnam and the United States have, for more than five decades, conducted serious, effective, and ongoing cooperation in the effort to locate, identify, and repatriate the remains of U.S. servicemen. Thousands of remains have been returned to American families as a result of this sustained collaboration.
The joint effort is a meaningful humanitarian contribution that helps heal the wounds of war, strengthens bilateral relations, and builds mutual trust and friendship between the two countries, Hang noted.
She added that the US side has repeatedly acknowledged and highly valued Vietnam’s role in this process, calling it a model of international cooperation in addressing war legacies.
Vietnam and the United States will continue full and active cooperation in this field, in line with the spirit of the 2023 Joint Statement on elevating bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace, cooperation, and sustainable development, affirmed the spokesperson.
