Vietnam, Kenya foster bilateral relations
VOV.VN - Kenya and Vietnam should continue to strengthen bilateral relations, as well as to maintain effective coordination and support at regional and international forums.
Kenyan President Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta made the proposal at a reception for Vietnamese ambassador to Tanzania and Kenya Nguyen Nam Tien, in Nairobi capital on December 2.
Kenyatta said both countries need to focus on promoting trade-investment ties in order to raise two-way trade on a par with the two countries’ strengths and potential.
Presenting the credentials to the Kenyan President, ambassador Tien was happy that the friendship and cooperative relations between the two countries have constantly developed in recent years, especially in trade and economics.
He expected to receive support from the Kenyan government during his term, thereby contributing to deepening the traditional relationship between the two countries.
Ambassador Tien also congratulated Kenya on its being elected as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2021-2022 term, helping raise the country’s increasing role in region and the world at large.
Following the ceremony, Ambassador Tien met with Paul Ndungu, who is in charge of affairs with Asia and Australia under the Kenyan Foreign Ministry.
Both sides agreed to increase delegation exchanges, accelerate bilateral trade and investment relations and step up cooperation at multilateral forums, especially between the ASEAN and East African Community (EAC).
The ambassador also had a meeting with representatives of the Vietnamese community in Kenya to inform them about Vietnam’s situation and cooperation between Vietnam and Kenya.
