Vietnam - India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership receives a boost
VOV.VN - National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue on September 7 met with Speaker of the Indian Lower House (Lok Sabha) Om Birla in Vienna where they voiced their support for the stronger Vietnam - India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The two leaders highly appreciated the fruitful cooperation between their countries over the years, contributing to the fine development of the Vietnam - India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
They said both sides should promote the implementation of the Action Programme to realize the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for 2021-2023 which is going slow due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
They concurred that Vietnam and India should continue to flexibly maintain high-level contact, more effectively strengthen cooperation in potential areas, and boost trade promotion.
It’s imperative to remove trade barriers to facilitate the export of goods to each other’s markets, aiming to raise their two-way trade to US$15 billion in near future, they said.
The two leaders also suggested that both countries promote people-to-people exchanges, strengthen post pandemic culture and tourism cooperation, and support heritage preservation.
NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue spoke highly of India’s progress in COVID-19 treatment and control, and thanked India for donating COVID-19 medical supplies to Vietnam. He expressed his wish that India would continue to cooperate and support Vietnam in controlling the pandemic, especially in vaccine and drug access and transfer of vaccine production technology.
Speaker Om Birla affirmed that India is ready to promote cooperation with Vietnam in the fields of economy - trade, science - technology, defense - security, as well as in ensuring maritime security and safety. He also voiced India’s commitment to cooperating with Vietnam in issues related to COVID-19 prevention and control.
Reviewing the results of cooperation between the two countries’ legislatures, the two leaders agreed that both sides should continue to effectively implement the 2016 cooperation agreement by promoting high-level and committee-level exchanges and meetings in a flexible manner either virtually or in person.
Hue revealed that the current 15th legislature of Vietnam will continue to establish a Friendship Parliamentarians Group with India to strengthen legislative cooperation between the two countries.
