Vietnam desires to strengthen cooperation with Grenada

VOV.VN - Vietnam wishes to continue promoting and deepening its cooperative relations with Grenada in the coming time, said Vu Trung My, Vietnamese Ambassador to Venezuela concurrently accredited to Grenada.

The Ambassador was speaking during his meeting with Governor-General Cecile La Grenade following the credentials presentation in the capital city of St George’s on August 5.

He expressed his honour to assume the role of Vietnamese Ambassador to Grenada and affirmed his commitment to continuing efforts to enhance friendship and cooperation across all fields between the two countries.

Conveying the warmest greetings and best wishes from President Luoong Cuong and other senior leaders of Vietnam to Governor-General La Grenade, the Ambassador emphasised Vietnam’s foreign policy of independence and self-reliance for peace, friendship, cooperation, and development, and the consistent pursuit of diversification and multilateralisation of external relations.

Governor-General La Grenade expressed admiration for Vietnam’s struggle for independence and its achievements in national development. She welcomed Ambassador My’s new role and expected that the diplomat would work hard to contribute to forging bilateral relations.

She thanked President Luong Cuong for inviting Grenada to attend the signing ceremony of the UN Convention Against Cybercrime, scheduled to take place in Hanoi on October 25–26, confirming that Grenada would send a representative to the important event.

During his earlier meetings with Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell, who is also Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), and Foreign Minister Joseph Andall, both sides agreed to strengthen relations between the two ruling parties and foster cooperation in various areas, including economics, tourism, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.

Ambassador My proposed that Grenada soon recognise Vietnam’s market economy status and support its candidate for the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) for the 2026–2035 term.

Minister Andall welcomed the proposals, and expressed Grenada’s desire to continue close coordination with Vietnam at multilateral forums. He also voiced support for negotiations and early signing of agreements on visa exemption for diplomatic and official passport holders, and on avoiding double taxation to provide a legal framework for deeper bilateral cooperation.
