Vietnam, China step up legislative, economic and financial oversight cooperation
VOV.VN - National Assembly President Tran Thanh Man has proposed stronger substantive cooperation between the legislatures of Vietnam and China in economic and financial legislation and oversight, helping create a favourable legal environment for economic development and deepen bilateral ties.
National Assembly President Man made the proposal during his reception in Hanoi on September 16 for Zhong Shan, chairman of the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, who is on a visit to Vietnam.
He stressed that the visit would further help concretise the 2024 cooperation agreement between the National Assembly of Vietnam and the National People’s Congress of China, while contributing to the consolidation and development of the Vietnam-China Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and the Vietnam-China Community with a Shared Future of Strategic Significance.
He noted that agreements reached by the top leaders of the two countries should continue to be implemented resolutely and substantively by agencies, ministries, sectors and localities in the coming period.
Stepping up legislative and economic oversight cooperation
The National Assembly President called on the two legislative bodies to maintain regular high-level delegation exchanges and exchanges among committees, young parliamentarians, women parliamentarians and friendship parliamentary groups, thus strengthening their cooperation.
Welcoming the Chinese delegation’s working session with the Economic and Financial Committee of the National Assembly of Vietnam, the top legislator underscored that the two sides have considerable scope for sharing theoretical knowledge and practical experience in economic and financial management.
As economic cooperation between the two countries continues to expand, the National Assembly President stated that there remains considerable potential and room for further Vietnam-China cooperation. In the first eight months of 2026, two-way trade reached US$234 billion, with the two sides targeting US$300 billion for the full year.
The figure underscores the growing need to improve institutions, coordination mechanisms and legal frameworks to support bilateral economic cooperation.
Sharing experience in economic and financial management
For his part, Zhong Shan, Chairman of the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, expressed agreement with his host’s proposals, affirming that cooperation between the two legislative bodies has become increasingly in-depth and substantive.
According to him, economic and financial cooperation is an important pillar of relations between the two legislative bodies. He agreed that the two sides have considerable room to exchange experience in economic and financial legislation and oversight, particularly in areas where their respective models and practices can provide useful references for each other.
He spoke highly of Vietnam’s socio-economic development and said these achievements provide a foundation for the two sides to further expand exchanges and cooperation.
On that basis, he proposed that the two legislative bodies strengthen coordination and share experience in legislation and oversight, contributing to a favourable legal environment for economic development in both countries.
On the occasion, entrusted by Zhao Leji, chairman of the National People’s Congress of China, the Chairman of the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee conveyed Zhao Leji’s greetings and congratulations to the top Vietnamese legislator.
He expressed his belief that under the leadership of the two top legislators, relations between the National Assembly of Vietnam and the National People’s Congress of China, as well as between the two countries would continue to deliver positive and practical results.
