Vietnam, Cambodia boost defence cooperation
VOV.VN - Cambodia hopes Vietnam will continue to train human resources for the Cambodian army, coordinate in implementing defense protocols of the two countries, and conduct joint patrols on the border.
Gen. Vong Pisen, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, expressed his hope during his talks with Sen. Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Tan Cuong, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Minister of National Defense, in Phnom Penh on March 18.
He highly appreciated Vietnam’s practical contributions to the success of the19th ASEAN Chiefs of Defence Forces’ Meeting (ACDFM-19) in Phnom Penh on March 17, as well as effective cooperation in border demarcation and cross-border crime fighting between the two countries.
The General said that given regional and global rapid changes, the Royal Government of Cambodia always maintains cooperative relations and upholds the principle of non-interference in internal affairs of other countries.
He proposed setting up a hotline between the militaries of the two sides to promptly deal with urgent issues.
For his part, Gen. Nguyen Tan Cuong congratulated Gen. Vong Pisen on successfully chairing the 19th ASEAN Chiefs of Defence Forces’ Meeting (ACDFM-19) on March 17, and affirmed Vietnam’s commitment to supporting Cambodia during its ASEAN Chairmanship Year 2022.
The same day, Gen. Cuong paid a courtesy visit to Cambodian Defense Minister Tea Banh and laid a wreath at the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monument.
