Vietnam, Azerbaijan hold political consultation in Hanoi

VOV.VN - Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son on July 19 received Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov who was in Hanoi for the second political consultation between the two Foreign Ministries.

Son affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to and wishes to further develop the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Azerbaijan.

He emphasized that both Vietnam and Azerbaijan still have potential for cooperation in various fields, especially in economy, trade and investment, while requesting that the two Foreign Ministries cooperate closely in promoting the exchange of delegations at all levels.

For his part, Mammadov noted Azerbaijan wishes to promote cooperation with Vietnam in the fields of economy - trade, investment, education - training, culture - tourism, transportation, oil and gas energy, as well as cooperation between the two countries’ localities.

The same day, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ha Kim Ngoc and his Azerbaijani counterpart Elnur Mammadov co-chaired the second political consultation between the two Foreign Ministries.

Ngoc said economic cooperation between Vietnam and Azerbaijan is not commensurate with the potential and traditional friendship between the two countries. He suggested that the two sides beef up cooperation, connect their businesses, and at the same time promote the role of the Vietnam - Azerbaijan Intergovernmental Committee for economic, trade and scientific – technological cooperation.

Meanwhile, Mammadov suggested that the two sides maintain political consultations, and continue to coordinate closely in improving the legal framework for expanding cooperation in oil and gas, and logistics among others.

Both sides exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern. They agreed to continue to work closely at multilateral forums, contributing to maintaining peace, stability and the rule of law in the world.
