Vietnam and Slovakia step up cooperation in key priority areas
VOV.VN - Strengthening cooperation across key sectors was a central focus of the meeting between Party General Secretary and State President To Lam and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico in Hanoi on April 13, as the two countries advance their newly upgraded Strategic Partnership.
At the meeting, General Secretary and President To Lam reaffirmed that Vietnam consistently values its traditional friendship with Slovakia, one of its key partners in Central and Eastern Europe. He described Fico’s visit as a significant milestone, reflecting strong political trust and opening a new phase of more substantive and stable bilateral cooperation.
Both sides agreed to enhance high-level exchanges across Party, State, Government, and people-to-people channels to further consolidate political trust and lay a solid foundation for long-term cooperation.
Economic, trade, and investment cooperation will be elevated as a central pillar of bilateral ties.
The Vietnamese leader emphasised the importance of implementing flagship projects in priority sectors such as automotive industry, renewable energy, high technology, digital transformation, and information technology. He also highlighted the need to strengthen cooperation in high-quality human resource development, labour, and business connectivity.
For his part, Fico affirmed that Vietnam is Slovakia’s most important partner in Southeast Asia and among its top partners in Asia. He expressed confidence that agreements signed during the visit would generate new momentum for bilateral cooperation.
Both sides agreed to step up cooperation in a range of strategic and forward-looking areas, including science, technology, and innovation; defence and security; industry and renewable energy; tourism and high-tech agriculture; and artificial intelligence (AI)
These areas, they noted, are expected to drive a new phase of growth and elevate bilateral cooperation.
People-to-people exchanges were highlighted as a key pillar underpinning sustainable bilateral relations, helping foster mutual understanding and strengthen traditional friendship.
The two leaders also underscored the importance of leveraging each country’s strategic position as a gateway to broader markets.
Vietnam can serve as an entry point to ASEAN, while Slovakia offers access to the European Union (EU), thereby expanding opportunities for businesses and strengthening integration into global value chains.
On regional and international issues, both sides stressed the importance of upholding international law, respecting the United Nations Charter, and resolving disputes through peaceful means based on dialogue and mutual respect.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Robert Fico conveyed an invitation from Slovak President Peter Pellegrini to General Secretary and President To Lam to visit Slovakia. The Vietnamese leader accepted the invitation, saying the visit will take place at a mutually convenient time.
