Vietnam and RoK deepen parliamentary cooperation to drive strategic partnership
VOV.VN - Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK) are strengthening parliamentary cooperation as a key pillar to reinforce political trust and support the effective implementation of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The direction was highlighted during a meeting between Chairman of Vietnam’s National Assembly Tran Thanh Man and visiting RoK President Lee Jae-myung in Hanoi on April 23, as part of the latter’s state visit to Vietnam.
Both sides underscored the increasingly important role of legislative bodies in accompanying governments to realise bilateral commitments, particularly through law-making, supervision, and policy alignment, thereby creating a solid institutional foundation for long-term cooperation.
Chairman Man affirmed that Vietnam’s National Assembly supports and will closely oversee the implementation of agreements reached during the visit, aiming to enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of bilateral cooperation outcomes.
For his part, President Lee expressed appreciation for the role of Vietnam’s National Assembly and its leadership in supporting the country’s rapid economic development. He reaffirmed the RoK’s commitment to comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam across both traditional sectors and future industries.
He also voiced strong support for continued facilitation by Vietnam’s legislature to ensure a stable, transparent, and predictable investment environment for Korean businesses operating in the country.
The two leaders agreed that parliamentary ties between the two countries have developed substantively, contributing to consolidating political trust and facilitating broader cooperation across sectors. They pledged to further deepen these ties through high-level exchanges, strengthened collaboration between specialised committees, and more active engagement of the Vietnam–RoK Parliamentary Friendship Group.
In this context, parliamentary cooperation is expected to play a more proactive role in promoting collaboration in emerging and strategic sectors, including semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), renewable energy, digital transformation, biotechnology, and smart infrastructure.
Beyond economic cooperation, both sides highlighted the importance of people-to-people exchanges and the growing role of cultural and sports cooperation, including e-sports, as a means to further connect the two nations.
They also agreed that parliamentary cooperation would continue to support efforts to protect the legitimate rights and interests of citizens in each country, while fostering closer community ties.
During the meeting, President Lee highlighted the important role and contributions of the Vietnamese community in the RoK, affirming support for continued efforts to protect their legitimate rights and interests.
He agreed with Chairman Man’s proposal to further facilitate favourable conditions for the community, while noting that the RoK would consider measures to simplify visa procedures for Vietnamese citizens in order to promote greater exchanges between the two countries.
President Lee welcomed Chairman Man’s planned visit to the RoK in the near future, expressing confidence that continued high-level exchanges would further strengthen legislative collaboration and contribute to advancing bilateral relations in a more substantive and effective manner.
