Vietnam and Honduras expand areas of cooperation
VOV.VN - Vietnam and Honduras are steadily enhancing political trust and expanding their areas of cooperation, especially as the two countries are celebrating the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations (May 17, 2005 - 2025).

Speaking at a recent ceremony to receive the newly appointed Vietnamese Ambassador to Mexico and Honduras Nguyen Van Hai, Honduran President Xiomara Castro congratulated the Ambassador on taking on a new mission and believed that the diplomat would successfully fulfill his mission and help elevate bilateral relations to new heights.
Castro expressed her admiration for Vietnam’s struggle for national independence and reunification, as well as its achievements during the Doi Moi (Renewal) process under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam. She affirmed Honduras’s desire to deepen cooperation with Vietnam across multiple fields, particularly in the context of the 20th anniversary of diplomatic ties.
Hai, for his part, pledged to make every effort to promote the friendship and cooperation between the two countries. He reaffirmed Vietnam’s consistent policy of strengthening its relationship with Honduras based on three pillars of Party-to-Party diplomacy, state diplomacy, and people-to-people diplomacy.
Stressing the great potential for cooperation, he proposed that the two countries boost economic, trade, and investment cooperation to match the strong political foundation already in place. He also recommended that the two sides increase joint activities to mark the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations, including the exchange of high-level delegations and bilateral dialogues.
Earlier, the Ambassador presented a copy of his credentials to Honduran Minister of Foreign Affairs Javier Bu Soto, held talks with Deputy Foreign Minister Gerardo Torres Zelaya, and met with representatives from several relevant agencies.
At a meeting with the Ambassador, Deputy Foreign Minister Torres Zelaya emphasised the importance of establishing a regular political consultation mechanism to support the implementation of high-level agreements and foster dialogue on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
He also proposed signing a visa exemption agreement for holders of diplomatic and official passports, which would mark a new step forward in the traditionally friendly relationship between the two countries and open up broader cooperation opportunities.
