Vietnam actively prepares for Brunei Sultan’s coming visit this year

VOV.VN - Vietnam is making active preparations for the upcoming visit to Vietnam by the Sultan and the Queen of Brunei, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said during his short meeting with his Majesty the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah in Kuala Lumpur on May 27.

Relevant Vietnamese agencies are working closely with their Brunei counterparts to prepare for his Majesty the Sultan and her Majesty the Queen of Brunei to ensure it will yield positive and substantive outcomes, he told the Sultan.

Chinh, who is in Kuala Lumpur for the 46th ASEAN Summit and related meetings, thanked the Sultan for his heartfelt condolences over the recent passing of former State President Tan Duc Luong, and at the same time conveyed the greetings of Party General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong, and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man to His Majesty.

The Sultan, for his part, expressed his pleasure at the continued positive development of the relationship between Brunei and Vietnam over the past 30 years. He said he was looking forward to the coming visit to Vietnam this year to further strengthen the friendship and bilateral relations.

Acknowledging the potential for enhanced cooperation in the future, the Sultan noted, the two countries still have ample room and untapped potential in areas such as oil and gas, chemicals, agriculture, fisheries, tourism, and Halal food processing, which should be better utilised and promoted.

Echoing the Sultan’s view, Chinh proposed that Brunei continue to facilitate Vietnamese businesses in engaging in cooperation in sectors such as oil and gas, chemicals, and food supply. He also suggested that Brunei issue more licenses for Vietnamese fishing vessels and fishermen to operate in its waters, and support Vietnam in obtaining Halal certification and producing Halal food, taking advantage of the country’s abundant and diverse raw materials.

The two leaders agreed to continue effectively implementing the Action Programme to realise the Vietnam - Brunei Comprehensive Partnership for the 2023 - 2027 period, enhance exchanges and contacts at all levels, and promote people-to-people diplomacy, thereby creating momentum and deepening bilateral relations in the coming time.
