Venezuelan media show interest in Vietnam’s Communist Party Congress
VOV.VN - Venezuelan media outlets have shown strong interest in Vietnam’s upcoming 14th National Congress of the Communist Party, as the Southeast Asian nation prepares to outline its development directions for the coming decades.
The Vietnamese Embassy in Venezuela, working with Venezuela’s Ministry of Information and Communication, on January 8 briefed local journalists in Caracas on the congress, which is scheduled to take place in Hanoi from January 19 to 25.
The event drew editors and reporters from major Venezuelan media organizations, reflecting growing attention in Latin America to Vietnam’s development model and political governance.
Addressing the gathering, Vietnamese Ambassador to Venezuela Vu Trung My noted the congress would review nearly 40 years of economic reform under the Đổi mới (Renewal) policy, five years of implementing resolutions from the 13th Party Congress, and progress made during the country’s transition toward socialism.
He said the congress would also set socio-economic priorities for the 2026–2030 period and define Vietnam’s long-term development vision to 2045, the centenary of the country’s founding.
“The congress is a major political event that will shape Vietnam’s development in the next stage,” said the diplomat, adding that recent achievements were driven by national unity and international cooperation, including support from Venezuela.
He said Vietnam would continue to pursue an independent and self-reliant foreign policy based on peace, cooperation and development, while promoting multilateralism and diversified external relations.
Vietnam aims to remain a reliable partner and a responsible member of the international community, he said, in line with international law and the United Nations Charter.
Venezuelan journalists questioned Vietnamese officials on economic reform, public participation in policy making and Vietnam’s growth outlook.
Francia Mata, director of Diplomatic News Channel, cited what she described as broad public consultation ahead of the congress, noting that millions of comments were submitted on draft documents within a short period.
This shows a strong emphasis on participation and consensus building, she said.
Menry Feanquiz, a reporter for the Universal newspaper, pointed to Vietnam’s average annual economic growth of about 6.3% between 2021 and 2025, placing it among the faster-growing economies globally.
He said the performance provided a foundation for Vietnam to pursue more sustainable and inclusive growth.
Nhadezka Álvarez, a journalist with Venezuela’s state television network VTV, asked about major policy decisions expected at the congress and said she expected the event to define Vietnam’s long-term strategic direction.
At the end of the briefing, Venezuelan journalists expressed support for closer ties between Vietnam and Venezuela, saying they expected cooperation between the two countries to further expand following the congress.
